Johnson & Johnson is the world's premier consumer health company operating more than 250 companies in 57 countries, and employs 119,000 people. The Global Strategic Design team at Johnson & Johnson faced a very common challenge. They needed to standardize package testing operations around the globe; however, they lacked a common system to manage procedures and workflow, and accurately measure testing results. Johnson & Johnson needed a management system that could orchestrate resources, organize test methods, and manage workflow and document qualification plans and testing results.
Johnson & Johnson engaged PointSource to develop the Global Design Strategy Management System. PointSource developed a centralized, secure, web-enabled system that is accessible to all Johnson & Johnson employees via the Internet, and is used to store and retrieve information relating to global package testing methods, laboratories, equipment and roles, facilitating a better understanding and utilization of global package testing resources available within Johnson & Johnson. This application also improves lab request workflow and communications between Packaging Engineers and Lab Technicians through email notifications and event reminders.
The Global Design Strategy Management System benefits Johnson & Johnson has realized is the ability to actively monitor and manage its global package testing resources across all regions in real time, allowing supervisors to ensure quality and integrity throughout the qualification and testing process. Ad hoc queries and reports allow management to monitor and plan resource requirements, preventing cost overruns. The system leverages Johnson & Johnson's existing authentication infrastructure and is seamlessly integrated in this hosted solution. The project has a proven ROI-both in the form of reduced direct costs (consolidated licensing), and reduced indirect costs (operational efficiencies).
